Stumpy Monster

I made this plush for Brian and Jen (actually, for their daughter Lily!) It took me a year to finally get it to them, but I think they liked it, regardless of the delay.

This little guy has interchangeable parts: stumpy arms, long arms and I'm currrently in the process of making some angel and batwings for the back. It has been a while since I worked with thick, faux fur - it was so difficult to work with, not to mention the big mess it left all over my studio and me! But, I'm happy how he came out.

UPDATE!

If you find this page, please either click my Banner or go to 'www.stumpytown.com' to find my recent posts! Something happened to my blog during the past migration and you may not see the new stuff. Booo.

-------------------------------------------------------

Just a heads up folks, as of May 1, Blogger will no longer support FTP publishing. I am about to attempt this crazy-migration-tool-thingie and see what happens. Cross your fingers... it looks like a bumpy ride ahead...

Flatcolor Gallery: Henchmen & Sidekicks

Here is my peice for the Henchmen & Sidekicks show at Flatcolor Gallery this month. It's Gary, a.k.a. Henchman #21 from The Venture Bros.! I wanted him to look like a Butterfly specimen / dissected frog, thus the guts and shadowbox. He is made of basswood and painted with Acryla-Gouche and Cel-paints.
I can't say enough about brand spankin' new X-acto blades. The first few cuts are the just... the best. I went through 3 blades on this tiny piece.
Here is Dev's piece, Mxyxptlk and Batmite! I love the expressions in all of Dev's characters... ;-)

Stumpy-WonderWoman

I made this for Dev for Valentine's Day. She's about 15in. tall.
Now, Stumpy Batman has a ladyfriend!

FLATCOLOR GALLERY: Feb 4th

Thank you to all of my friends and family for coming out to the show last night! There were some really nice pieces in the show - the other 6 artists live out of state - unfortunately, I wish I could've met them. If you get a chance to check out the show, it will be up for the month of February.

Here's my STUMPYTOWN contribution to the show...

Illo Friday : CONFINED

I've never been one to play Scrabble, but Dev recently got me hooked on the "Words with Friends" app! But, what drives me bonkers is always seem to get stuck with the letter "Q" without any good tiles to work with... I'm left with the only option to slide that dang Q next to an "I" for "Qi". Meh. I've got to learn to ditch the "Q" earlier in the game. ;-)

STUMPYFRIENDS, literally.

I had the most incredible surprise of my life last night. I truly had no idea the party was planned and I was genuinely confused the moment I walked through the door. To be surrounded by friends and family... it was overwhelming.

I owe a big THANK YOU to Dev, my sister Kim and Patrick, my folks, Lily and Dru - you schemers!, my relatives and all of my amazing friends I've grown to know and love all of these years. I'm the luckiest person in the world having you all in my life.

I turn 40 next week... I've had mixed feelings about it. This past year, I've talked with Dev and Kim about the feelings I had about how silly it seemed to do 'Stumpytown' in my 'old age'. They both have been unbelievably supportive and encouraging... I feel embarrassed that thought had crossed my mind.

My husband and friends created a Stumpytown Tribute show for me! I cannot believe they did this. I was blown away. I still am speechless...

Thank you to everyone for an amazing birthday. I will never forget it. You have no idea how much it meant to me too see you all there last night. I LOVE YOU ALL!

Dev, Kim & Patrick... THANK YOU SO MUCH.

And mah, I can't believe you baked all of those cookies! (actually, I can. Ah, childhood memories.) Christy, thank you for the beautiful and insanely delicious German Chocolate cake... I'm still eating it!
